Vineyard Team
Our vineyard team is led by Morton Serbon from Napier, Hawkes Bay, New Zealand. Morton knows the soil, the climate, and the vineyards like the back of his hand. He has academics on his side, with two viticulture certificates from Eastern Institute of Technology and NZHITO Hawkes Bay followed by five years experience on vineyards ranging from 60 to 390 acres working for Esk River Wines, Morton Estate Wines and Constellation Wines.
Since starting at Blasted Church, already Morton has proven to be worth his weight in gold and once you have the pleasure of meeting him you’ll see that he is not a guy of small stature! Morton and his wife Rene look forward to making their stay in the Okanagan a long and exciting experience.
Let it be known that Morton will never appear on the Hoarders TV show. He is the tidiest and most organized person in the entire hemisphere. As an added bonus, Morton always comes in early and has the coffee on for the crew when they get to work. Nice guy!
Morton has two right hand men working with him on the Vineyard Crew: Jason and Gord.
Originally from BC, Jason Lindsay traveled to Ontario to discover that he would much rather be in our beautiful province after all. Blasted Church was a natural for Jason, as his older sister Rachel had worked 3 years in our wine shop, and she just loved the place too. Jason is young, eager, and a real keener. He and his girlfriend Vanessa recently fixed up the staff house across the street from the vineyard. Jason has one of the shortest commutes in the entire Okanagan Valley.
And on Morton’s other right hand side is Gord Lahay, our longest standing employee at Blasted Church. Perhaps he is going through a mid-life crisis, but Gord just recently cut off his signature ponytail. We all wonder what he will do next?! He is a walking 1970’s music wikipedia. (…this might explain the ponytail). The man doesn’t go anywhere without his sidekick, Razor, his loyal companion dog. Gord is usually Richard’s target for ribbing. This may change should Gord progress his music interests to either metallic or grunge.
Our Vineyard Team is often supported by our hands-on Cellar Team (and vice versa, of course). An International Team, at that: Steve Soper from Australia, and Simon Robertson from Scotland. Can you imagine the thickness of the accents in that Cellar of ours !?
