Harvest Notes
The 2010 Mixed Blessings is an aromatic blend of Riesling (64%) from Naramata and Gewürztraminer (36%) from our estate vineyard. The Gewurztraminer was harvested in late October, and the Riesling which is one of the latest ripening varietals was harvested during the first week of November. Patience was required in harvesting the Riesling; acidity levels were too high and flavors had not developed in October.
Winemaking
All varieties were picked and then sorted whole bunch and after de-stemming the fruit was sorted whole berry. This allowed us to remove any undesirables, such as leaves, rot and stems. Each variety was fermented separately undergoing a long and cool fermentation to extract the fruit character of both varieties. All ferments were stopped when the appropriate sugar levels were met. The blend came about when wondering what this vintages Mixed Blessing could be. We wanted to blend a wine that was truly aromatic and that was completely different from the Hatfield’s Fuse. The final blend complemented the high acidity of the Riesling with extremely low acidity of the Gewurztraminer.
