Harvest Notes

Our Special 10th Anniversary Edition Amen NV Port- de-Merlot was hand harvested from our estate vineyards. Generally these are the last grapes to be harvested each year. Average sugar levels were 24 Brix and above.

In anticipation of our 10th Anniversary, we held back 2 barrels of Port de Merlot from 2006 to blend in with the later vintages. This wine is very intense in colour and aroma and sets it apart from the 750ml Amen Port de Merlot. The 10th Anniversary wine was also aged in oak 6 months longer than the Amen Port.

Each year the grapes are destemmed but not crushed into fermentation bins. After a cold soak of three days the must is inoculated with yeast and fermentation begins. Punching down of the cap takes place daily. Once the sugar level has reached the optimum range the fermentation is stopped by adding wine spirits. After pressing, the wine is aged in neutral barrique barrels. This Non Vintage Port-de-Merlot is a blend of 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009 vintages. This blending of vintages conveys both youth and age on the palate.
