Bouquet: Dark fruit, blueberry, raspberry, strawberry, wild sage, very subtle oak influence 
Palate: Bright fruit leads the way before the dusty tannin builds along with a rich mouthfeel, which carries through to the finish. 
Food Pairing: A big porterhouse shared between friends would provide a lovely foil for the wine, as well as braised meats, mushrooms, and hard, salty cheeses.

Harvest Notes

For this Small Blessings wine offering, we identified the old vines Cabernet Franc from our neighbours on the Skaha Bench, Matheson Creek Farm, as the perfect source for a small scale experiment. We have always been amazed at the quality of the Cabernet Franc that comes from this vineyard, but since it’s such a small quantity, we have had difficulty showcasing it on its own – enter the Small Blessings wine program! 


Old vines Cabernet Franc from the Skaha Bench fermented in upright oak barrels with the heads removed. The fermentation included 10% whole cluster, lending freshness and a huge fruit character to the wine. For cap management, we did away with traditional punch down tools, opting instead to work the fermenting cap with our bare hands. When the wine was ready, we drained the free run and gave the skins and remaining whole berries a gentle squeeze before putting the wine back to the same barrel that it had been fermented in for 22 months of barrel aging, then it was racked and bottled unfined and unfiltered.
